Background: Management of the child who has swallowed a foreign body should be guided by risk complication. Objective Review: This review discusses patient and characteristics most likely to associated with complications. Discussion: Most bodies will pass through GI tract without Children pre-existing abnormalities any sort, or those swallow higher-risk bodies, are at higher risk. Higher-risk include long, sharp, pointed objects, button batteries, small magnets. Nearly presents an Emergency Department other acute care setting after ingestion undergo plain radiography; forms imaging may also appropriate. Primary providers opt for initial observation period when there is lower Esophageal batteries emergently removed; esophageal objects promptly removed or, if low risk, allowed brief spontaneously.
